Ninh Binh - Where to visit?

Ninh Binh offers many attractions, including a paddleboat excursion through limestone karst mountains, a trek up Mua Cave, and the world's largest population of Delacour's langurs.

BEST TIME TO VISIT
The rice and lotus season runs from May to July, making this the ideal time of year to visit the northern part of Ninh Binh Province.
Tam Coc-Bich Dong is a tourist destination with limestone karst mountains, caverns, and Buddhist pagodas. Locals earn a living by rowing boats with guests through rice fields on the Ngo Dong River.

The rice harvest season in Tam Coc runs from May to July, with ripening rice paddies painted bright yellow reaching along both sides of the river, making it ideal for a two-hour boat cruise.

WHERE TO VISIT?

1. Bich Dong Pagoda Complex
It was built in the Truong Yen limestone mountains in 1428, during King Ly Thai To's reign.
The pagoda has a roof covered with brick tiles and is constructed of stone and wood.

The entrance gate of Bich Dong Pagoda is hidden behind a big mountain. Visitors go across a stone bridge that crosses a large lotus pond that bursts with vibrant pink blossoms in the summer. A calm courtyard awaits beyond a gate, as do three additional old temples concealed at the foot of a big mountain.
Visitors are required to cover their knees and shoulders when visiting Bich Dong Pagoda, as is the case with many other Buddhist shrines.

2. Hang Mua
Hang Mua (Dancing Cave), often known as Vietnam's miniature Great Wall of China, is a must-see destination in Tam Coc.
The Thai Vi Temple got its name from a legend that King Tran Thai Tong, who ruled from 1225 to 1258, ordered its construction and frequently went there to enjoy singing and dancing.

The top of the mountain can be reached by walking up 500 white stone stairs. The handrails on both sides of the steps are beautifully ornamented with Tran Dynasty dragon or phoenix emblems. From the peak, you may enjoy breathtaking views of Tam Coc's yellow paddy fields below.
A ticket for a sightseeing tour of Hang Mua costs VND120,000.

3. Bai Dinh Pagoda
The Bai Dinh pagoda complex spans 1,700 hectares and includes a massive gold-plated bronze Buddha statue and an Arhat avenue.

Vietnamese architectural elements at the pagoda were created by about 500 craftsmen and groups of workers from well-known traditional craft villages in northern Vietnam using traditional materials including green stone and ceramic tiles from Bat Trang village.
It takes a long time to explore the entire site, therefore it's a good idea to board an electric shuttle bus for VND80,000 for a two-way ticket to go around and see a tower within the pagoda complex.

4. Cuc Phuong National Park
Cuc Phuong national park is a well-liked camping location, just one hour from Ninh Binh's center.
The country's first national park is home to tropical forests, 1000-year-old trees, and an abundance of flora and animals, particularly the black and white douc langur, Cuc Phuong's symbol.

In addition to trekking, cycling, and camping, guests can take a wildlife watching trip at night to see animals come out to feed, as well as kayaking on Yen Quang Lake.
Cuc Phuong is home to the Muong ethnic community, who live on stilts and are masters of brocade weaving.
Hats, walking shoes, medicines, food and drink, and binoculars for sightseeing are all good ideas to bring along.

5. Van Long reserve
A boat ride around the Van Long wetland natural reserve, which is well-known for having an appearance in the Hollywood film "Kong: Skull Island," is highly recommended, according to travel bloggers.

Local guys serve as tour guides for the trip. With a maximum of two people per boat, the trip costs VND60,000 ($2.58) per person and runs approximately one hour. It passes past stunning caves and karst limestone mountains. From the boat, you may observe storks, herons, and kingfishers, among other birds. If you're lucky, you can even spot the extremely uncommon Delacour's langur monkey.
