Sea, Sand & Wind - Best Things To Do In In Mui Ne
Only four hours from Ho Chi Minh City, Mui Ne is tucked away on a tranquil coastline with long, palm-lined beaches that appeal to all kinds of tourists. Families enjoy beach days and seafood dinners, adventure seekers seek out sand dunes and strong winds, and culture vultures explore fishing communities and Cham ruins. (One of the best places in Asia to do kiteboarding is Mui Ne.) The town's laid-back beach ambiance is given an international air by the diverse mix of Vietnamese and foreigners. These are the top seven things a first-time visitor to Mui Ne must do.
1. Mui Ne fishing village, early dawn.
Learning more about Mui Ne's past as a fishing station is worthwhile. The fishing village's market is bustling just as dawn breaks. Fishermen use scooters, trolleys, and containers to quickly offload their boats as they bundle together. All around us, fresh seafood gleams. It's time for coffee and cards when the catch lands. Women prepare fish, aerate tubs, and negotiate with customers. Make sure you arrive early and move aside.
2. Walking through the Fairy Stream
The Fairy Stream in Mui Ne is a mild, ankle-deep stream that runs beside a verdant woodland on one side and striking red clay and limestone rock formations on the other. Step out of your shoes and wander upstream. Before you return, make sure you pause at one of the rest spots for a refreshing coconut.
3. Perfect beach days
Sometimes it's best to do nothing at all. Day passes are available at several of Mui Ne's waterfront hotels, whether or not you're staying there. Relax in a hammock in the garden or a lounger by the ocean while listening to the calming sound of the waves and reggae sounds. Get a massage near the seaside to unwind completely.
Tips: Locals and returning visitors alike love Coco Beach, one of Mui Ne's original resorts.
4. Kiteboarding instruction with professionals
Get out on the water and kiteboard if you want an adrenaline rush. The wind blows stronger in the late afternoon, but if you're new to the sport, the wind is gentler in the morning. For an introductory lesson, stop by Flyboard Mui Ne or any of the other reputable kiteboarding schools. You will learn how to glide, board up, strap in, air the kites, and draw out the lines.
5 & 6. The sand dunes at sunrise or sunset
Located in a desert along the coast, Mui Ne is renowned for its red and white sand dunes. It's worth getting up early to see the sunrise in the white sand dunes. The 25-kilometer drive awakes the senses, with chirping crickets, a deep blue horizon, and salty sea air. The sky becomes hazy pink and purple as you ascend the dunes, and the sun shows the wide sandy hills and the ocean beyond. Visit the red dunes just outside of town for a sunset. As the sun disappears over the horizon, try sandboarding down one of the numerous radiant orange dunes.
TIP: You will have more freedom to explore the nearby beaches, cafes & resorts if you rent a motorcycle.
7. Dinners of seafood on the sea wall
There is no better location to dine than one of Mui Ne's many 'bo ke' seafood restaurants along the beach wall. The freshest seafood is kept in bubbling tanks, and the humidity is reduced with iced beer. Make the meal you desire by selecting the seasoning and cooking technique that you prefer. The menu include grilled prawns, crispy fish, garlic scallops, fresh oysters, lemongrass clams, and chili-stuffed squid.
